About This Item

[New York?]: [Published by the author?], 1966. A defense of the slogan "black power" as an expression of "Negro group solidarity" and "communal self-assertion." Danzig, a Jewish professor at Columbia, discusses the transition from the liberal, interracial civil rights movement to a new phase of militant self-interest. Although he views this change as a positive one, he warns: "A Negro movement based primarily on self-interest is a necessity, but a Negro movement based exclusively on self-interest is doomed to failure." Danzig's paper was published in the September 1966 issue of Commentary magazine and was widely cited and reprinted. We assume this mimeographed copy circulated before the Commentary publication.

Corner-stapled, 11" x 8 ½" sheets mimeographed from typescript, 10 p. Fine. This edition not found in OCLC.
