About This Item
New York, New York: St. Martin's Press, 1999 SIGNED, DATED AND PERSONALLY INSCRIBED COPY of veteran national political journalist David Corn's first novel (his short story, "My Murder," was nominated for an Edgar Allen Poe Mystery Writing Award in 1997). "Deep Background" is a compelling tale of Washington political intrigue, into which the reader is quickly thrust after U.S. President "Bob Hanover" is shot dead at a White House press conference by a mysterious assassin, who some investigators believe may be connected to the CIA. Fellow novelist and newsman Jim Lehrer, called the novel "a page-turning thriller from first word to last. It's full of well-developed characters--both heroes and villains--doing things that bring some of the worst parts of what is Washington vividly alive." Book is in VERY GOOD TO BRAND NEW CONDITION. STATED FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING (by the numbers), SIGNED, DATED AND INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR ON THE TITLE PAGE: (Copy 1) "A Tale of Spin City." (Copy 2) "A Deeper Truth" and (Copy 3) "Believe nothing!" Uclipped dust jacket shows original purchase price of $25.95. Black and yellow cover is colorfully illustrated with a photo of the official presidential podium, showing only the president's hands and part of his suit coat behind a cluster of microphones. Dust jacket is in a protective cover. Boards are solid black embossed with gold foil lettering and the dog logo of Thomas Dunne Books, an imprint of St. Martin's. Signed by Author. First Edition.
