About This Item
New York: Random House, 1972. Hardcover. Fair To Good/Very Good. The first novel in the award-winning Gores mystery-crime series featuring San Francisco private detective, Daniel Kearny and the staff of his Dan Kearny & Associates, which specializes in auto repossessions, which are mostly routine until they're not. First edition, book club edition, About 5 3/4 x 8 1/2 inches, 184 pages in black paper-covered boards with red lettering on spine. Dustjacket's front panel shows image of man's face superimposed on a missing persons report. Lettering on front panel and spine is blue and black. Back panel has 8 blurbs of praise for Gores and his work. This is an ex-library copy with superficial damage to both covers and end pages where Dj's plastic protector was taped to book. Also, top edge of text and title page are stamped "Hospital Copy" and top edge shows remainder mark. Text itself is complete, clean, w/o underlining, highlighting or other markings. Having been protected, dustjacket is in much better condition. Edges of flaps show quarter-inch of age-yellowing, o/w no creasing, tearing, chipping or other noticeable damage or flaws. The book, albeit the first book in Gores unique and now near legendary series, remains a reading copy, its faults hidden under a much better-than-average dj.
