About This Item

John Long, 1978. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. 1978 FIRST EDITION true crime hardcover with dust jacket, published in the UK by John Long Ltd. Clean, well-preserved UNREAD COPY with bright, unmarked pages and firm binding. Jacket shows minor shelf-rubbing and minor edge wear only, and remains bright, glossy and presentable. This is NOT an ex-library book and not a remainder. Nice copy! "In this true crime collection, Leonard Gribble has written on the compulsive theme of killers who, by design or anticipation, destroyed themselves in dramatic and at times nightmarish circumstances. Among them are the killer of two Australian sisters, murdered years apart; a man who died rather than face the woman he loved; and two thugs who brutalized a pair of Scottish pensioners. Yet another pair fled the Mau Mau only to be trapped in an Italian blood feud. Perhaps the most poignant story is that of a mother who, after some years, ventured to join her baby in death, while the most fearful is that of the American killer who beheaded a dozen victims in a unique and bizarre campaign of horror. Included also are a gang's 'enforcer' and a mystery murderer who contrived to electrocute himself. In short, these dozen cases comprise a terrifying record of intended human self-destruction that is always compelling as a document of human behaviour resorting to the limit of extremes.
