About This Item
FIRST EDITION (UK) in dust jacket. The book is fine, SIGNED by Irwin Kremen, an American artist on the FFEP. The dust jacket has a short tear at the foot of the front panel and has mild darkening to the spine. Although the American edition would be the first, I find this dust jacket more interesting. I was shown the following association inscription in another copy of this book: 'I was with 'Pop' West, as we called him, when this book arrived from Random House with a red jacket he detested. Nothing ever seemed to go right for Pop, until his post-mortem renaissance./But we believed in him then./Budd Schulberg'
Synopsis
The Day of the Locust is a 1939 novel by American author Nathanael West, set in Hollywood, California during the Great Depression, depicting the alienation and desperation of a disparate group of individuals who exist at the fringes of the movie industry. Time Magazine included the novel in its TIME 100 Best English-language Novels from 1923 to 2005, and noted critic Harold Bloom included it in his list of canonical works in the book The Western Canon.
