About This Item
The Old House Foundation, 2013. Hardcover. Very Good. David Roberts. A selection of thirty-five high quality reproductions of the watercolour sketches done by Roberts during his travels in the near east that were subsequently reproduced as lithographs by Louis Haghe for Robert's great work: The Holy Land, Syria, Idumea, Arabia, Egypt, and Nubia that appeared between 1842 and 1849. Though still somewhat romanticized, Roberts' images presented the sites and topography of the Holy Land with a startling clarity for western audiences. Though the lithographs are faithful recreations, the watercolours possess an ethereal beauty and better reflect Roberts' awe of his surroundings. Complete with a short biography of the artist and his work with colour images and including maps, the original title page and frontisportrait of Roberts. oblong 4to. (285x380mm) Complete with slipcase. Slipcase has some mild rubbing and shelf-wear. Volume has some very mild shelf-wear but contents are pristine. Very good. *Due to size and weight, extra shipping fees may apply to overseas orders*
