About This Item
Norman, OK: University of Oklahoma Press, 2006. First edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very good. SIGNED by the author of the Foreword. 157pp. Quarto [28.5 cm] Black cloth over boards. In a dust jacket, with rubbing and several scratches to the rear panel. The longest scratch measures 4 1/2 inches. "Autographed Copy" sticker on the front panel. Danish immigrant Benedicte Wrensted greatly contributed to the visual legacy of the Northern Shoshone, Lemhi, and Bannock ("Sho-Ban") American Indian tribes. She opened up her photography studio in Pocatello, Idaho, in 1895, working there as a commercial photographer until 1912. Her work remained little known outside of Pocatello, and like so many other women photographers of the period, she became lost to photographic history.
