First performed at the Abbey Theatre, Dublin, on 24 April 1990, directed by Patrick Mason. 71 pages, clean and tight. 1991 Olivier Award-winning playwright. Friel, 1929-2015, was an Irish dramatist and short story writer, and he founded the Field Day Theatre Company. His other works include Philadelphia, Here I Come and Faith Healer.
Synopsis
The play Dancing at Lughnasa by Brian Friel gives a glimpse of life for the spinster Munday sisters in 1936 during harvest season in County Donegal. The sisters range from twenty-six to forty, and are barely surviving on their meager income, which they lose by the end of the play.
