About This Item

NEW YORK: BONI AND LIVERIGHT, INC., 1891 Sudermann, Hermann (Matziken, East Prussia, 1857-1928, Berlin), went to school at Tilsit and afterwards studied at Königsberg and Berlin universities. The son of a small brewer, Sudermann possessed a gift for writing and began in the 1880s with literary journalism in Berlin, which, except for short periods spent in Königsberg and Dresden, was henceforth the focus of his activity. NICE LOOKING BROWN COVER, POCKET, Frau Sorge ( Dame Care) is the first of Hermann Sudermann's complete novels (1887) and the work which brought him his fame as a writer of fiction. FLEXIBLE FAUX LEATHER COVER, GOLD DESIGN AND PRINT FRONT AND SPINE, NO INTERNAL MARKINGS, BOTTOM AND TOP OF SPINE SLIGHTLY WORN. The story is conceived around the imaginative legend of Frau Sorge, with which the story ends. It is the story of a mother so poor and lonely that she had no one to act as godmother for her son except Dame Care, who offers to see that the boy grows up to be a good man who shall never go hungry if his mother will give the boy's soul, with his youth and his hope of happiness, as a hostage to Dame Care.
