Washington: Department of the Interior, 1866. Linen-backed lithographed map, hand-colored region borders. 60.2x52.4 cm. (23 "x20 ") plus margins. Shows the Missouri River flowing down to the lower right with hand-colored county borders, plus the Yankton Reserve listing as 100,000 acres and above in bold lettering "Indian Title Extinguished, Yankton Cession." The territory is largely unsurveyed. Surveying had only been completed in a few townships right along the Missouri River. The map shows the treaty line of July 23, 1851. One of the maps from the "Maps Accompanying Report of the Commissioner of the General Land Office," which were the first large colored maps issued by General Land Office. Lithographed by The Major & Knapp Engraving & Lithography Co.
