About This Item

New York: Farrar Straus & Giroux, 1970. Hardback. D. W. Griffith. The Years at Biograph. Wear and a small tear to edge of D/J. When 'Larry' Griffith started to work as a motion-picture actor in 1908 at the Biograph studio (then at 11 East 14th Street, New York), he doubted that the movie industry would last very long. Some months later, when Biograph needed a director and offered him the post, he accepted on condition that he wouldn't lose his acting job if it did not work out. It not only worked out with spectactular success, but D. W. Griffth went on to become the greatest director ever known. What he did at Biograph between 1908 and 1913 changed the history of movies. Illustrated. 250 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions, Reference books ,and all types of Academic Literature.). 1st Printing.
