About This Item
New York: The Home Journal, 1849. 1st Edition . Soft cover. Good/No Jacket. Weekly newspaper, folded naturally into quarters, never bound. Contains, on page 2, column 7, this curious comment on the recently published "Shirley" : Currer Bell is such a peculiar name that it has been hitherto accepted as a nom de plume, whereas it is really and truly the name of the authoress of Jane Eyre..." What follows is a very brief review of the new novel "Shirley." A curious time piece, written before the Bronte sisters worldwide fame. Also contains a notice of the soon-to-be-published first two volumes of the works of Edgar Allan Poe, who died a few months earlier, and other interesting literary notices.
