London : Lewis and Hamblin , 1807 A good to very good copy of Culpeper's Herbal in 2 parts, as revised by Sibley, in rebacked contemporary full leather binding. The first edition of this was published in the mid 1790's. The binding has a new spine with gilt-lined raised bands and title label. The boards have delicate gilt decoration to borders, and rebuilt corners. The board surfaces and side edges have some scuffing. Original marbled endpapers are present with repair. Contents: frontispiece portrait of Culpeper, title, dedication, preface and introduction xvi pp. Text 396 pp; index to p 400; 29 hand coloured plates of plants; colour tinted frontispiece; title to part II - The Medical Part; text pp 1-244 with 11 (of 12) colour tinted plates; dispensatory pp 245-254; index to medical part pp 255-256; directions to binder p 256. The frontispiece portrait has been remounted on matching paper and the title has replacement paper in the gutter. There are small repaired edge tears in the Medical Part at pp 31, 37 and 39. Paper has light toning to edges and some light spotting and marking at times, but the contents are generally clean. There are some ink splots on p 252. Some page corners have been turned over at some point. The first 5 hand coloured plates have a darkened side edge - the remainder are brighter.
