About This Item

New York: Committee of Returned Volunteers/New York, 1970. A 23" x 17" newsprint sheet folded to make 8 panels. Small closed tears to edges and folds, newsprint toned, but VG overall. One copy under the title "Vietnam is a stake not a mistake" in OCLC at the New York Historical Society. But a few other institutions have copies of various CRV newsletters. Possibly the first issue of a newsletter published by the NYC branch of the Committee of Returned Volunteers based on "Number One" stated at the top of the front panel. The recto is comprised of short articles: "Vietnam is a stake not a mistake," "Nixon's bag of tricks," "Weapons of U.S. domination," "The ten points: the solution to the war," and "Who governs South Vietnam. The verso features a striking image of a large winged dragon constructed of blocks representing U.S. corporate interests being attacked by a fist constructed of similar blocks of U.S. radical groups, such as the Black Panthers, YLO, Venceremos Brigade, G.I.s United, etc., and a North Vietnamese soldier composed of third world liberation groups, countries and leaders. The Committee of Returned Volunteers was founded in 1966 and was comprised of individuals working in voluntary service in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. They were staunchly anti-imperialist and were active in anti-war activities and in the Africa Liberation Support movement.
