About This Item

New York: Churchill Livingstone, Inc., 1988. First Edition . Hard Back. Very Good/No Dust Jacket. 8" X 10. 571 Pages Indexed. Red cloth and illustrated paper-covered boards, gilt spine and front board lettering. Endpapers are light gray. Glossy text pages. Over the centuries, the two central ligaments of the knee have been called the genucruciata, the crucial ligaments, and the cruciate ligaments. Galen referred to the genucruciata, and Robson, Hey-Groves, and Bosworth referred to the crucial ligaments, but all major references subsequent to 1936 refer to the cruciate ligaments. The Crucial Ligaments was chosen as the title for this book. This title carries a double meaning-first, that it is the two crucial ligaments that form the central pivot of the knee, and second, that preservation or restoration of the ligamentous structures of the knee is crucial for optimal function and sports participation. The Case Studies in Section I, supported by the scientific and scholarly contributions in the other sections, provide a practical guide for the knee surgeon. This book emphasizes selectivity based on the principles of knee surgery. The resident may find a "ribbon match" that will help guide the management of a patient. The practitioner may seek a standard of practice. The mature craftsman will find examples and internal references to broaden his or her understanding of the principles of knee care, including physical examination, decision making, surgical care, and rehabilitation. May this book fulfill its purpose so that you may teach those who follow.
