'North of San Francisco there is a half-mile mountain rising seemingly from the water. It is held in affection by all, and so is the memory of the now vanished Mt. Tamalpais & Muir Wood Railway which scaled it. This reailway had 281 curves and made 42 complete circles in its 8-1/4 miles of track.
