Royal 8vo (240 x 154mm): xii, 282pp, with frontispiece and 23 full-page plates and seven folding maps on tissue. Publisher's quarter black cloth lettered in gold, brown paper-covered boards, decorative label printed in black to front cover, fore- and bottom edges uncut. Vintage bookseller's ticket to front paste-down (Chas. E. Lauriat, Boston). A superior example, tightly bound (hinges skillfully reinforced with Japanese tissue, several leaves roughly opened with no loss of text) and clean throughout.
