London: Longman, Brown, Green, and Longmans, 1849. Sixth Edition . Fine Binding. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Published in 1849, the Sixth edition. Complete in 3 volumes. Size 8.75" x 5.5", 490, 611, and 628 pages. Tree calf and gilt fine binding. The front and back covers are made of mid brown tree calf with a borders of gilt flowers and scrolls. Tan calf spines with five raised bands with gilt detail. Titles and volume numbers in gilt on brown leather labels in the second and third and elaborate gilt flowers and scrolls in the other compartments. Gilt hatching to the cover edges, marbled page edges, pastedowns and endpapers. Condition very good, corners and edges a little rubbed, owner's bookplate on front pastedowns else fine, contents very clean. With the bookplate of Henry Yool Esq. on the front pastedown of each volume. Contains: Volume I; Milton, Machiavelli, Hallam's Constitutional History, Southey's Colloquies on Society, Mr. Robert Montgomery's Poems, Civil Disabilities of the Jews, Moore's Life of Lord Byron, Boswell's Life of Johnson, Southey's edition of The Pilgrim's Progress, Lord Nugent's Memorials of Hampden. Volume II; Burleigh and his Times, War of the Succession in Spain, Horace Walpole, William Pitt Earl of Chatham, Sir James Mackintosh, Lord Bacon, Gladstone on Church and State, Sir William Temple. Volume III; Lord Clive, Von Ranke, Leigh Hunt, Lord Holland, Warren Hastings, Madame D'Arblay, The Life and Writings of Addison, The Earl of Chatham.
