Pages are lightly tanned and thumbed at the edges, with light foxing. Binding has remained firm. Boards have been moderately rub worn. Noticeable shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are bumped and a little frayed Spine ends are crushed, with noticeable splits and chips. Holes to spine. Surface tears to boards. Tanning to spine and edges. Boards are bowed. Book has a forward lean. Water marks to boards and spine.

Moderate foxing and tanning to pages with slight dog-eared pages throughout and both hinges are cracked with exposed netting. Boards have heavy rubbing and edge wear. Major bumping to corners and heavy crushing to spine ends. Splitting to joints.

Leipzig: Bernhard Tauchnitz, 1850. Hardcover. Good. 4 1/2 x 6 in. Half brown morocco with marbled paper boards. Condition is GOOD ; both hinges cracked, with front partly loose. Shelf wear, covers slightly rubbed but very clean. Spine a bit chipped and gilt there bright. Text bright and unmarked, with gift message on ffep. Essays. Stax.

Full tan calf, G. iv+434pp, index, printed in double column, marbled endpapers, first few blanks rather yellowed & very grubby & dusty, leather worn, particularly to the spine, lettering pieces both missing, a good copy. A classic 19th century work, much published & reprinted. Odd Volume.

Good only copy [spine badly cocked and creased with chipping to the ends; scattered spot staining to the spine/cover, creasing and and edge tears and some edge chipping to the cover, corner creasing, scattered foxing]. .

A classic 19th century work, much published & reprinted.

All covers show considerable wear, soiling, fraying top and bottom of spines. Rear joint of volume I cracked. Marginal notations, in pencil, volume I. No markings in Volumes II and III. Bindings solid in all three volumes. Good reading copies.
