Maroon cloth boards and spine with bright gilt lettering on the spine and front board; gilt border on front board. Gil textblock top. 522 pp 8vo. One of the most popular novels ever written about the American Civil War. A story of the Civil War and slavery with the lead, Stephen Brice, a Northerner, unable to understand slavery and Southern women and seems lost until he met a ugly uncouth man. This man turned out to be Abraham Lincoln who Stephen began to worship and follow through the war. A clean very presentable copy.
