First edition, first printing of Thomas Berger's first novel, the start of a series focused on US army medic Carlo Reinhart in the aftermath of World War II. Thomas Berger drew on his personal experiences as an army medic in the US Occupational Forces in Berlin to craft the story of Carlo Reinhart and the sometimes kooky characters he encounters. Part coming of age story, part thriller, CRAZY IN BERLIN is the first of four Reinhart stories by Berger. 8.25'' x 5.5''. Original olive green cloth binding with black spine lettering.Original unclipped ($4.75) red and grey dust jacket, designed by Sydney Butchkes. "A.8-58[H]" on copyright page. [8], 438, [2] pages. Small gift inscription to front flyleaf dated 1961. Jacket with edgewear, one tiny hole; 1.5" closed tear to rear, with small crease. Binding with a bit of bumping to spine ends; occasional toning to leaves. An attractive copy.
