About This Item

London: Max Parrish, 1953. Good-. FIRST EDITION, INSCRIBED BY KAVANAGH TO THE PUBLISHER. 8vo, incl., b/w frontis and plates. Original black cloth, spine lettered in gilt. Bumped, warped and creased, mottling to upper board, edges tanned and foxed. Endpapers toned, foxed, inscribed by Kavangh in blue ink to title page: "To Max, Best wishes. It is always grand to say, Hello There. As always & sincerely, Reg Kavanagh, 1953". Fair A pre-eminent presentation copy, from Crash Kavanagh to the publisher, Max Parrish, in a condition, alas, reminiscent of the stunt driver's work. The Irish stunt driver and speedway rider, Reg 'Crash' Kavanagh, was "a global superstar of the stunt world" who "travelled the globe, crashing motorbikes, cars and planes, and breaking nearly every bone in his body, in front of packed-out stadiums from Brisbane to Buenos Aires." Kavanagh had his own stunt company, initially nicknamed the "Death Squad", it later became known as the "Reg Kavanagh Film Crash Squadron".
