[Berkeley]: Council of The Friends of The Bancroft Library, 1970. Unbound. Very Good. Facsimile. One quarto sheet folded to make four pages. Measuring 8¾" x 10" closed. The interior prints a historical background by Franklin Walker, and a facsimile of the petition is laid into an applied pocket. Wrappers with modest soil, very good or better. Norris, who would find fame as an author and journalist, studied at the University of California from 1890 to 1894 with mixed results. In the accompanying petition, according to this document the earliest surviving communication in Norris's collected correspondence, he requests the ability to choose his own college coursework in order to focus on becoming a fiction writer. Issued to celebrate the centennial of Norris's birth. With a program for the 23rd annual meeting of The Friends of The Bancroft Library laid in (horizontal fold and tiny nick else fine).
