------------------------Bill Honig - Born and raised in San Francisco, California, Bill Honig attended local schools before launching his career as an
educator. After attending Stanford University for two years, Bill Honig completed his undergraduate coursework at and the University of California at Berkeley, obtaining a Bachelor's degree in General Education and a Juris Doctorate
from Boalt Hall. He subsequently received his Master's in Education from San Francisco State University. After working as a community organizer and lawyer, Bill Honig decided his true calling was education and became a
fifth grade teacher in inner-city San Francisco. Governor Jerry Brown subsequently appointed him to the California State Board of Education in 1975 and he served through 1982. After also serving as Superintendent of
Reed Union Elementary School District in Marin County, California, Bill Honig was elected to the statewide office of California Superintendent of Public Instruction for three terms. Bill Honig has also acted as a Regent of the
University of California. Upon leaving the public school system, Bill Honig co-founded the Consortium on Reading Excellence, or CORE, with Linda Diamond. Envisioning a country of proficient young readers, Bill Honig
collaborates with schools and their districts across the nation to train teachers and administrators on the latest education research available about teaching and learning. In 1996, Bill Honig published "Teaching Our
Children to Read" (Corwin Press; 2d Edition, 2001). In addition to presiding as President of CORE, Bill Honig is an owner and managing partner of Honig Vineyard and Winery in Rutherford, California.
