Page ends are darkened with a spine bump, else Fine. . The subject of this biography was the most respected Republican of his day, and was known as "Mr. Republican. " He tried to win the nomination of his party for the Presidency, but failed each time, first losing to Wendall Wilkie, later to Dwight Eisenhower. He is the grandfather of a former Governor of Ohio, Bob Taft. SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR on the first endpaper. This is the first edition, published in 1952. . 8vo - 8" to 9" tall. 370 pages.
