First edition, in the publisher's original quarter vellum binding with paper covered boards. Dedicated to The Bristol and Gloucestershire Archaeological Society, printing only 350 copies of the work. Written by English historian, archaeologist and author, Welbore St.Clare Baddeley, who wrote a number of travel books, including some on the Cotswolds, such as this one. This work covers the village of Hailes in Gloucester, presenting the history of the manor, parish and the abbey.With thirty-two illustrated plates throughout and a tinted map of the Abbey to the rear. Collated, complete.City of Cardiff Public Libraries bookplate to the front paste down. In the publisher's original quarter vellum binding with paper covered boards. Externally, sound with slight rubbing, mainly to the extremities. Loss to the backstrip to the head and tail of the spine. Loss to spine label. Slight soiling to vellus, moreso to the spine. The odd mark to boards. Offsetting and the odd mark to endpapers. Library bookplate to the front paste down. Internally firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with the occasional spotting, heavier to the first and last pages. Small closed tear to the map. Good
