About This Item

Hodder & Stoughton, London, 2003. First Edition. Hardcover. Good Condition (ex-library)/No Dust Jacket. Illustrator: Photographic / Illustrations. Introduction by author, source notes, bibliography and sources, index and photo acknowledgements. Tan coloured end pages. The text is illustrated with historical black-and-white and sepia toned photographs, reproductions of recruitment posters, documents and the odd coloured photograph. Green coloured boards with gilt coloured titles to the backstrip. In this book the author traces the history of military involvement of women from throughout history (usually surreptitiously, unless they were nursing the wounded), through to the change of enlistment through the Crimean, World War I and beyond; and the changing roles that women gained. The book ends with modern time with female pilots, front-line fighters etc. This is an ex-library copy, and the only indication that it is so is a part removal of a sticker to the rear paste-down. Rubbing of the backstrip corners and book corners. There is a 1.25" split to the top left-hand corner of the front panel. Some rubbing of the book panels and fading of the backstrip. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [5], VI - IX, [1] 246 pages,. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Illustrator: Photographic / Illustrations. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: 1-2 kilos.
