About This Item
Winnipeg: SkyWest Productions Inc., 2015. n.a.. DVD in plastic case. New. 35 minute documentary on DVD of the Cornish Library, a historic Carnegie Library in Winnipeg Manitoba. Sponsored by the Friends of the Cornish Library and produced by Frank Adamson and Stan Lesk (SkyWest Productions) as part of the MTS TV Stories from Home series. Uses archival materials, interviews, music, and readings. "For 100 years, the Cornish Library has been a treasured place for Winnipeggers. Located in Armstrong's Point, the oldest residential neighbourhood in the city, Cornish Library is one of 125 libraries across Canada funded by Andrew Carnegie, once the richest man in the world. While many of these libraries have been repurposed or demolished, the Cornish Library still stands tall, unchanged and "free to all" despite numerous challenges over the decades." This documentary provides a capsule history of not only the library itself, but the neighbourhood and city of which it is a part. Suitable for school use; several children participated in the production and the connection of the library to local schools is explored. Multiple copies available.
