Hamburg: Kruse Verlag, 2000. Hardcover. SIGNED. First edition. Fine hardcover. BOOKS SHIP THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY, WRAPPED IN PADDING, IN A BOX. Corinne Day (1962-2010), taking off from Nan Goldin, embodied the 1990s photographic fashion aesthetic defined by natural settings, available light, little or no makeup, and young and seemingly unconcerned models. Her photos of a teenage Kate Moss for The Face set the tone and started the trend, though her work in the same vein later brought her into conflict with the big fashion mags. The aesthetic quickly evolved into what became known as "heroin chic." This book presents her personal work over a number of years, unflinchingly looking at the lives of herself (including her run-up to surgery for a brain tumor and recovery thereafter) and her friends, some of whom would die of drug-related causes. SIGNED BY DAY on the colophon page at the rear and dated in the year of publication. 112 pages; color reproductions throughout; 9.25 x 11.25 inches. LAID IN is her obituary from the New York Times.

Numismata, a discourse of medals, antient and modern; together with some account of heads and effigies of illustrious and famous persons, in sculps, and taille-douce, of whom we have no medals extant; and of the use to be derived from them to which is added a digression concerning physiognomy.

Description:
1697 1st ed Evelyn Numismata Illustrated Medals Coins Physiognomy Numismatics"The long and prolixer beard was ever a mark of gravity and wisdom in men, but a woman with a hairy chin, was saluted as a monster, by a peal of stones at her."
– John Evelyn, Numismata
John Evelyn's 'Numismata' is one of the most important 17th-century books on numismatics, ancient coins, medals, collecting them, and identifying authentic and fakes. This 1697 first edition is illustrated with engravings of medals each with inscriptions and commentary on the figures. While the title of the works refers to both numismatics, which includes coins, the content of Evelyn's treatise focuses primarily on medals alone.
This work though, takes a bizarre turn and covers more than just the study of medals. Evelyn writes about human physiognomy and the importance of the human face which appears on medals and coins. One rather odd section discusses the appearance of a beard on both a man and a woman!

Description:
Routledge, 1990. 8vo size trade paperback; 390 pages including index From back: "This is a unique study, continuing the work of Merleau-Ponty and Heidegger, and using the techniques of phenomenology against the prevailing nihilism of our culture. It expands our understanding of the human potential for spiritual self-realization by interpreting it as the developing of a bodily-felt awareness informing our gestures and movements. The author argues that a psychological focus on our experiences of well-being and pathology as embodied beings contribute significantly to a historically relevant critique of idealogy. It also provides an essential touchstone in experience for a fruitful individual and collective response to the dangers of nihilism." Edgewear, moderate wear to covers with sunned spine; marginalia, underlining and very light highlighting on least 58 pages prior to page 107; two previously folded page corners, some stray ink marks on outside pages.
