Hardcover without dust jacket, in brown and blue cloth with very bright and clear gilt lettering to front cover and spine, 970 pages including Macaulay's 59-page Essay; very gently used, only light shelf wear to cover edges, tight in binding although some looseness developing at hinges, multi-coloured pencil marks on approximately 20 pages, previous owner's rubber stamped name/city on three pages, otherwise very clean and unmarked. .
