Signed by William Styron on the third free end paper. First Edition Thus. Includes the rather scarce 22-page "Notes from the Editors", which accompanied this edition in its original shipment. Octavo, 441 pp., stylish woodcut illustrations by Ann Grifalconi. Full rich chestnut leather with green leather spine title panel, gilt decorated and imprinted, spine panels rib divided, All Edges Gilt, ruby-red moire endpapers with matching satin page-marker ribbon. Franklin's as-always lavish binding, in a limited signed edition of Styron's 1967 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, the story of the slave revolt in Virginia in 1831, led by Turner. Title is taken from Thomas Ruffin Gray's 1831 (non-fiction) account of the same name. The paper is 60-pound Franklin Library Publishers Eggshell Wove in Cream Tone, typeface is Garamond, gilt is 22 karat. The Franklin Library, doing what they did best. As New; bright, tight and immaculate. With the author's 'A Special Message to Subscribers from William Styron', written in 1979 for this limited edition, and, of course, the separate 'Notes from the Editors', a very desirable example.
