About This Item
New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1911. First edition. Cloth. Very Good. 7.5" by 5". F. R. Gruger. A first edition copy of this legal thriller by Arthur Cheney Train, featuring the law practitioner Artemas Quibble, with a frontispiece and illustrated plates. First edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece and seven black-and-white plates. 'The Confessions of Artemas Quibble' by Arthur Train is a legal thriller featuring the the titular character and his adventures as a one-time practitioner in the New York Criminal Courts, as well as his ascension into a fellow community of 'shyster lawyers'.Arthur Train (1875-1945) was an American lawyer and writer of legal thrillers. His most popular literary lawyer was Mr. Ephraim Tutt, whose escapades were written and published within the Saturday Evening Post. Tutt was often referred to as the 'best known lawyer in America'. Collated, front endpaper has been neatly excised, but doesn't affect the text or pagination of this work. Otherwise, complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Some marks and discolouration to boards, with minimal bumping to extremities and a bit of wear to head and tail of spine. A few marks to paste downs, and lacking the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound, with binding loosening a bit more towards the middle of text. Pages are bright and clean throughout. Very Good
