Wrappers a little worn; fine copy.. 12mo, contemporary stiff marbled wrappers, 21 pages. A rare published account of Beulah Biddle Sansom's travels with her husband, Joseph Sansom, in Europe during the early years of their marriage. Joseph Sansom (1765-1826) was from a prosperous Philadelphia family and could afford the leisurely life of the grand tour, about which he wrote in his Letters from Europe . . . Philadelphia, 1805. Mrs. Sansom also wrote letters about their trip, including this very long and detailed one, but her version of their sojourn was not published until this privately printed edition in 1821. The person to whom the letter is addressed is not identified, and neither is the author, but on the final page of text is the following inscription: "Philadelphia 3rd Mo, 1833 / Presented to Elizabeth Wistar / By her friend / Beulah Sansom." There is a similar inscription in one of the five copies described in OCLC.
