About This Item
Toronto: McClelland & Stewart, 1965. When a sniper's bullet blinded Lieutenant Edwin Albert Baker in 1915, a new era dawned for sightless people world over. Bakers contact with other blind veterans and sighted people who wanted to help led to the incorporation in 1918 of the Canadian National Institute For The Blind. This was the beginning of a multti-faceted career and a record beyond the reach of most abled-bodied people. The author, prize winner of two Governor-General's medals, puts forth a profile of a man of formidable strength of character; a wise, generous and warm human being. A section of photographs on heavier semi-gloss stock is provided. One photo shows Baker receiving the Helen Keller Award, 1960. Short gift inscription to ffep. Pale-color spotting to top edge of book. This book remains sound and respectable.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Good.
