Contemporary full polished calf with six spine compartments between raised bands. Brown leather label in second compartment with gilt-tooled title: Collins, Gray, & Goldsmith. Blind-tooled center medallion and ruled borders on both boards. All page edges red. Dark brown endpapers. Gift inscription on frontispiece verso: "Charles Gilpin from his Uncle John F. Gilpin Christmas, 1860." Philadelphia merchant John Ferris Gilpin (1796-1869) was the uncle of Charles Gilpin (1845-1911). In Very Good Condition: leather is rubbed; spine slightly faded; minor loss at head of spine; joints are solid; pages are clean and tight.
