About This Item

Chicago/Atlanta/New York: Scott, Foresman and Company. Very Good+ with no dust jacket. 1925. Hardcover. Here is a history of Spanish America written by a South American historian with the Latin American viewpoint - a history that is actually being used as a text in the schools of South America. Although necessarily abbreviated for classroom use in this country, the parts that have been retained are in original form and the South American atmosphere is not disturbed. Publishers blue cloth, gilt lettering front and spine, abundantly illustrated - frontispiece color map of South America, many additional illustrations in b&w, Preface in English, text in Spanish, Spanish to English Vocabulario at rear. This copy with publishers promotional leaf tipped-in inside front cover. Dr. Navarro's history shows here and there an "anti-Yankee" animus ... This attitude is frequently found in Latin America, and will be especially useful to our students to know in advance what criticisms of our policy and attitude they must be prepared to meet. [This is likely why this text never caught on, and thus remains scarce.] ; 5-1/4" x 7-1/2"; 315 pp; Slight cover wear at corners and top/bottom of spine, spine gilt dulled, edgewear to tipped-in sheet, prior owner name in pencil on FFEP. .
