Organized in 1851 with its initial two stitch patent, the Grover and Baker Company (Orlando Potter) came up with the industry changing idea of forming the Sewing Machine Combination (also known as the Sewing Machine Trust). This organization consisted of three sewing machine manufacturers, I. M. Singer Co., Wheeler & Wilson Co., and the Grover & Baker Co., who all agreed to pool their important patents and stop patent litigation between them.Recorded filing documents for annual corporate income, capital stock, etc. O.B. Potter as President, W.O. Grover as Treasurer and W.E. Baker. Capital stock listed at $150,000.00 and total Assets listed at $340,235.75 and shareholder names listed with share counts.
