Although not consistent with Harcourt practices, this is the true First American Edition, as confirmed by comparing with an advanced review copy in the “Daniel J. Leab Collection†in the John Hay Library at Brown University. VG with small triangular stain to foot of spine, with corresponding cut over the dust jacket spine. Other than cutout, unclipped dust jacket ($3.00) Very Good with only trivial edgewear and a hint of sunning to spine. $125.00
Synopsis
Coming Up for Air is a novel by George Orwell, published before World War II. It is the most culturally English of his novels with alarums of war mingling with images of an idyllic Thames-side Edwardian childhood. The novel is pessimistic - industrialism and capitalism have killed the best of Old England, and there are great, new external threats.
