Gilbert Abbott A Beckett (1811-1856) was an English comic writer and police magistrate, a contributor to Punch magazine, best known for Comic History of England and Comic History of Rome. His friends and contemporaries including Charles Dickens, Douglas Jerrold, George Cruikshank, Sheridan Knowles, and others.
