Cloth, xvi, 557 [1], xiv [2] pp., numerous illustrations, eight color plates by George Catlin, maps, bibliography, index. Authoritative, scholarly, eminently readable, and becoming harder to find in nice condition. A classic account of the most powerful of the American Indian tribes. Master horseback riders who lived in teepees and hunted bison, stunning orators, disciplined warriors, and the finest makers of arrows, Fehrenbach traces the Comanches' rise to power, from their prehistoric origins to their domination of the high plains for more than a century until their demise. Tiny remainder of a small white sticker on the front fly leaf, else fine in dust jacket.
