New York: Rinehart & Company. NF/G. 1946. 1st Edition. Hardcover; 1st Printing. 1st edition/1st printing. FN/G. Sub-title: The Rivers Of America Series. SIGNED & INSCRIBED by the author on the front end page. There is first a gift inscription: 'Happy Birthday 1957 to Florence - with Love - From Lucien' and, immediately following, the author has written: 'and with greetings to Florence from an old Colorado Springs friend. Frank Waters'. Below the inscriptions is Florence's small bookplate. Maps by George Annand. Not the National Travel Club edition (though that was a small printing, also, of only around 1500 copies), but the 1st trade edition. The Rinehart device is present on the copyright page, there is 'no' NTC on the dustjacket spine, the binding cloth is red, and though the dustjacket is clipped, you can see the $ sign and the lower edge of the first digit of the price. The 'Indian Ceremonial' color plate is present. The book is clean, straight, firmly bound, has no other handwriting in it and no soiling, and has just slight shelf wear to binding edges. The dustjacket is another matter; someone got carried away with clear tape reinforcements (many not needed), both on the front side (a few) and on the reverse side (many, along edges). There are shallow chips at spine ends, a few small, closed edge tears, and a wrinkled area lower front panel at the flap fold, plus some surface rubbing along folds and, as usual, the spine is sunned to a bluish-green color though still readable. It is now in a removable, clear DJ protector, and looks pretty good that way. ; Color and B&W Illustrations; 400 incl. Index pages; Signed by Author .
