About This Item

Saint Louis: The Laryngoscope Press, 1918. Limited ed. Library Binding. Very Good. Copy #89 of 300. Part One, Fagan's Collectors' Marks, by Louis Fagan of the British Museum, first appeared in 1883 and contains 671 "marks" for book owners, individuals or institutions. The marks are arranged by type: signatures, initials, monograms; stars, crosses; coats of arms, crests, intertwined forms and "other marks and devices," all reproduced in facsimile. The number assigned to the mark corresponds to the entry on it's owner, to the extent known, and gives information on the sale of the collection to which the mark pertains. Auctions or sales where the owner is unknown are left blank. The supplement by Einstein and Goldstein covers an additional 205 marks, but with less information for the reader. The index of names for the marks follows each section. This is an ex-library copy in a blue library cloth binding, with pencil markings on the limitation page and Preface page, a small abrasion on the front free endpaper from sticker removal, a tiny "Fine Arts" ink stamp on the rear pastedown, and library shelving information embossed on the spine in gold. The top edge was likely gilt in a prior life, at this point, it's a little too dusty to tell. Rubbing to edges, but no loss to cloth. I debated listing this as 'Good+' but went with 'very good', as it is a clean and serviceable copy of an early printing, despite it's former status as a library book, and quite likely in better shape than most copies it's age. 6.5"x9.5".
