Berkeley and Los Angeles : Univ of California Press, 1951. SCARCE in hardcover and dust jacket. Near Fine, prior owner name stamp top edge paste block, that of psychologist David Zeaman. In a Very Good Plus dust jacket, light edge wear and a bit of paper loss at head of spine. Contents are clean, tight, and unmarked. Edward Chace Tolman founded what is now a branch of psychology known as purposive behaviorism. He was also known for his resistance to the McCarthy-era "loyalty oath" because it infringed on academic freedom. A court case that bears his name caused the California Supreme Court overturned the loyalty oath and caused all those who were fired for refusing to sign it to be reinstated. . First Edition. Cloth. Near Fine/Very Good Plus. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
