Clean pages with light tanning and mild foxing throughout. More pronounced to free endpapers, pastedowns, half title page and last page textblock. Binding remains firm. Boards have mild edge-wear with slight rubbing to surfaces and bumping to corners. Gilt lettering is darkened. Moderate sunning to spine and edges with crushing to spine ends. Visible wear marks to boards.

Somewhat uncommon, especially signed.. First Edition. Hardcover. Signed by the author on the half-title-page. First edition, first printing, with "copyright 1962 by Donald Pfarrer" and no mention of a further printing on the copyright page. Scarce first novel by this Ohio-born writer, who studied literature at Harvard, was an excellent reporter, fought with distinction in the Vietnam War, and is the author of NEVERLIGHT, TEMPLE AND SHIPMAN, THE FEARLESS MAN, the mystery A COMMON ORDINARY MURDER (2008), as well as a nonfiction work GUERRILLA PERSUASION (1998). 8vo boards & cloth.
