Original publisher's papier mache binding, each cover a pierced and moulded black relief plaque of a coin with the British coat-of-arms with thistle, rose, shamrock and acorn corner ornaments, set over dark pink boards. Front board carefully repaired. Spine professionally restored, preserving the original spine with gilt title: "Coinage Of The British Empire". All page edges gilt. Original marbled endpapers, inner hinges carefully repaired. Library stamp to verso of title-page: "Gloucestershire College Of Art - Cheltenham". Rear endpaper with neat handwritten notes regarding specific coins. 8vo. 10" x 7" x 1.5" , pp.160, illustrated with 23 full-page plates, 12 of them chromolithographs heightened with silver and gold (all with offsetting to facing page). VG. ** Referenced by McLean Victorian Book Design, p. 112 and plate 213 for the plaque - "...supreme example of Victorian Gothic."
