Justinian's 'Corpus Juris Civilis' is unquestionably the fundamental work on law and jurisprudence! Parts of this work were originally intended to be used by law students, but they were not solely used as a textbook – they actually carried legal weight …as law! It includes four distinct parts – Codex, Digest, Institutes, and Novellae – each written with a different purpose.

'Codex' was the Justinian's attempt at organizing the laws in a systematic manner. Recognizing that the law system needed to be fixed, 'Codex' covers ecclesiastical law, criminal and civil law, the way laws were written and put into effect, duties of government officials, and proper administrative regulations.

This extremely rare and valuable 1519 edition is a massive folio published in Lyon by Francois Fradin.

Caspar Peucer was a 16th-century German scholar who was involved in the Reformation, studied philosophy, and was an aid to Tycho Brahe and his astronomical findings. Peucer also published an important history of the Holy Roman Empire beginning with Frederick II in the 13th-century through Charles V.

This 1566 edition is notably rare, as it does not appear in any institutional library in the entire western hemisphere! Exceedingly rare!

This rare undated 16th-century edition was edited and translated by Wilhelm Xylander, a notable German scholar and published by the famed Henri Estienne. Xylander was well known for his commentary and edits of Greek and Roman masters found in these volumes including Fabius Maximus, Timoleon, Pelopidas, and many others.

Robert Montgomery Martin was an Anglo-Irish author and civil servant who served as Colonial Treasurer of Hong Kong from 1844 to 1845. He was a founding member of the Statistical Society of London, the Colonial Society, and the East India Association.
