About This Item

EB: Harper and Brothers. Good. 1943. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. Hardcover. 8vo.. Harper and Brothers, New York, 1943. 185 pgs. First Edition/First Printing. Bound in cloth boards with paper titles present to the spine and front board. Boards have light shelf-wear present to the extremities. No ownership marks present. Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. Patchen's 6th book and the first to display his artwork/poetry combinations. "Cloth of the Tempest" is as varied as Kenneth Patchen's moods and methods of expression. He offers love lyrics full of the warmth of life, moving commentaries on war and his experiments with poems-in-drawings-and-type which introduced a new medium. Patchen has something to say and he's not afraid to say it with power and sincerity. Patchen's biographer wrote that he "developed in his fabulous fables, love poems, and picture poems a deep yet modern mythology that conveys a sense of compassionate wonder amidst the world's violence." Along with his friend and peer Kenneth Rexroth, he was a central influence over the San Francisco Renaissance and the Beat Generation. EB; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 185 pages .
