About This Item

London: Jonathan Cape, 1972. First edition. Cloth. Fine/Near Fine. 9.5" by 6". Raymond Hawkey. A very smart first edition of Len Deighton's novel about Hollywood. This novel is a first edition of the work, in original publisher's black cloth binding with the original dust wrapper. Len Deighton is a British author known for his novels on espionage and military history. His other works include The Ipcress File, Horse Under Water and Funeral in Berlin. He is also known for writing a number of cookery books. Close Up explores a rarely seen theme in Deighton's work, exploring Hollywood and the challenges it can bring. Deighton introduces Marshall Stone a celebrity trying to reclaim his youth by helping a writer start his biography. Scandals and upsetting memories make this difficult, and the biographer grapples with the new world of stardom. Deighton is credited for the abundant research which formed the basis of the novel, making this story both compelling and sadly realistic. In original publisher's binding with the original dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with light bumping to the extremities. Dust wrapper in excellent condition, with minor shelf wear and four small clips to inner flaps. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Fine
