About This Item
London: Hodder & Stoughton, 1947. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. First UK Edition. Publisher's oatmeal cloth with red lettering to the spine and front board. Faint offsetting to both sets of end-papers, minor foxing to the page block edges spine tips a little softened and just the merest hint of spine fade. No inscriptions. The VG+ first issue dustwrapper is priced 9/6 net to the inside flap (as called for) and has a hint of fraying at the head and tail of the spine which is a touch darkened. Great cover art by Bip Pares. First book and surprisingly elusive these days. A classic British mystery in which a young Scotland Yard detective is asked to interrupt his holiday to find out if the accidental death of Canon Whyte was indeed an accident. Photographs/scans available upon request.
