About This Item
Seattle: Metropolitan Printing and Binding Company, 1896. First edition. 22x14cm, 319pp. Advertisements. Original leatherette covers with several clippings of recipes, etc. adhered by the former owner. Covers worn at spine ends and showing general wear. Pastedown advertisements a bit cracked along edges, former owner's name and annotations in pencil throughout, with several recipes in manuscript added. Typical toning and staining in a few places, else complete and sound. A very good copy.
Well loved copy of this uncommon recipe collection, as noted in Jacqueline B. Williams' facsimile reprint, being Seattle's and Washington State's first cookbook. Includes wonderful period advertisements from the burgeoning city of Seattle, several essays which give a taste of upper class life, and many popular recipes from the turn of the century including several in manuscript from the former owner.
A historic cookbook from the state of Washington which is quite scarce in the trade and held by just 10 institutions in the U.S., according to OCLC.
Bitting pg 531. Brown 4316..
